Step through the looking glass. Slay the Jabberwock. Seek the King.

Alice is not prepared to face what awaits beyond the Tulgey Wood. When she and the rest of Team Heart enter the fourth and final Wonderland Trial, it’s up to her to lead them to victory. But this Trial is more than a game. If Alice and the others fail to defeat the Jabberwock and reveal the truth about Wonderland, more than points and fame will be lost.

Chess Shire never believed he’d make it this far. Now he’s stuck navigating a Trial he’s seen but doesn’t remember, all while searching for the brother he left behind. Not everything is as black and white as the game that shares his name. And if Alice discovers his deepest regret? Chess might just lose her too.

Apart, Chess and Alice scour the eight squares of the Heart Trial in search of memories, truth, and an Ivory King who seems more illusion than reality. Will they learn to lead together to face their greatest fears? Or will they remain pawns in a queen’s game, never truly seeing the Wonderland they’ve come to believe in?

Hop into a spinning tea cup for a mad conclusion to this topsy-turvy adventure. While it’s filled to the brim with wholesome themes of family and forgiveness, there are also surprises behind every talking flower and secrets surrounding the deadly jabberwock. This epic finale is satisfying to the last drop!” — Jamie Foley, award-winning author of The Katrosi Revolution series

The Looking Glass Illusion is the perfect second half of this amazing duology. Sara Ella exquisitely combines the feel and tone of both the beloved Disney adaptation as well as Lewis Carroll’s original, and then she mixes it flawlessly with her own story and voice and world to create the perfect Wonderland! I highly, highly recommend!” — S.D. Grimm author of the Children of the Blood Moon trilogy and A Dragon By Any Other Name

About Me

Once upon a time, Sara Ella brought dreams to life as a Disney cast member, wishing for the day she’d find her prince and live in a castle of her own. Now she spends her days homeschooling her three Jedi in training, braving the Arizona summers, and reminding her superhero husband that it's almost Christmas (even if it's only January). Sara is the award-winning author of The Wonderland Trials, Coral, and the Unblemished trilogy. She is old enough for fairy tales and believes happily ever after is never far away. Read More…

🙋‍♀️ Raise your hand if you feel a special sort of 🙋‍♀️ Raise your hand if you feel a special sort of magic when you see your favorite stories come to the screen? 🎬

I’m a movie girl. Yes, I love reading and books and obviously writing. But I’ll have to admit that film is my first love. I still remember seeing movies like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Ever After, and Titanic as a young girl and teen. There is just something magical that happens when the lights go out and the story comes to life before me.

I’ve always been one of those authors who has dreamed of seeing my own stories brought to film. When I write, everything plays out like a movie in my head, from the dialogue to the setting to the score playing in the background of an epic scene.

Well, it’s HAPPENING, friends. I’m so excited to announce that @yxentertainmentgroup is going to be making The Wonderland Trials into a vertical film! I had never heard of a vertical drama before they approached me, but the more I learned, the more intrigued I became. They have a vision and desire to bring stories filled with light and hope to the screen, and that’s something I can get on board with.

I am so thrilled to see Alice, Chess, Madi, and the rest of Team Heart cast for this project. I’ve been in conversation with the screenwriter already, and she has a passion for this series that makes me want to cry. 🥹

When God laid this story on my heart years ago, I never expected so many readers would walk away with more than just a fun memory of Wonderland. Instead, many of you have messaged me to share about how the spiritual themes in this book impacted you in some way. I can’t take credit for that—it’s all God—but I’m grateful to be a vessel for the words He gives me.

And I’m grateful that the folks at LumiView saw something beyond the surface of this book too. God is doing something with entertainment. I’ve noticed it quietly stirring as wholesome, heartfelt, meaningful stories slowly begin to return. So stay tuned. Aslan is on the move. Visit the link in my bio to join and learn more. 🔗

Happy Due Date to our little princess! 🩷👑 It’s ha Happy Due Date to our little princess! 🩷👑

It’s hard to believe you’ve been here a month. You’ve already gotten so big, and your little personality is starting to show. Your daddy is smitten with you, and I just can’t thank God enough for His plan in bringing you into our lives. You complete our family, my Ever After Girl.

Your brother is quite taken with his baby sister (even though he says you girls outnumber him). And your older sisters are like extra mamas. You hardly get put down for all the extra love you have to go around. My friends whose kids are all grown just want to hold and snuggle you.

I imagined starting with an infant again in my 40s would be exhausting. What I didn’t expect was how special it is to be a new mom again in this experienced stage of life. I can’t quite describe the joy it brings.

God knew we needed you even when we didn’t. As I sit here and type this, I have boxes and clutter all around me. We have just weeks left in this house we brought you home to. But as I reflect on all that’s taken place this year, I know without a doubt we aren’t leaving our home—we are taking it with us. Because home is where we are all together as a family.

A huge thanks to my dear friend @erinmcfarlandaz for capturing some precious moments of our family before we start a new season of life. I am reminded once again that it’s the people and not the place that make home what it is.

I’ll share more life updates in my August newsletter soon (🔗link in bio to subscribe). For now (and with Harry Potter’s birthday on the horizon), I feel more like a sorting (and organizing and purging and packing) hat than anything. But I don’t mind. 🧙✨ I am learning these days that less is more, brown cabinets aren’t so bad, and a return to simplicity is just what my heart needed. 🥰

Thanks to everyone near and far who has taken care of us this year. God is good and gracious, and we trust in His plan as we begin a new chapter. 📖

🎀 Did you guess prince or princess? I think it’s 🎀 Did you guess prince or princess?

I think it’s pretty obvious based on my baby shower theme that we welcomed a little girl into our home this month. 😘 My aunt, mom, and sweet friends put their whole hearts into giving me the most magical day back in the spring. I felt so loved and celebrated. And we were blessed beyond measure with all the baby things. Swipe to the last slides to catch a glimpse of our little princess. 👑

I had the intention of doing a fun little reel for the gender reveal, but I’ve been enjoying the quiet bliss of the newborn bubble while it lasts. I’m sleep deprived and still healing from surgery, and yet all of that fades into the background when I look at my rainbow baby. 🥹

I had no plans to have a baby in my 40s. Pregnancy and I do not get along very well. After the miscarriage last year, I felt the question tug at the back of my mind at every doctor’s appointment the last 9 months: “Is my baby’s heart still beating?”

Now I look at my sweet girl, and every ache and pain and worry and sleepless night and nausea-filled day from pregnancy seem like distant memories. I am in awe at this bonus baby God has bestowed on our family. That He has allowed me to be her mama. This may have not been in my plan, but I’ve never been more grateful for God’s plan to look different than my own.

I’m retreating back into the bubble for now. Thank you all for praying for us and for sending gifts and hugs and meals and everything else. You have blessed us beyond measure. 🥰

👑 Little Prince or Princess? Tomorrow is the big 👑 Little Prince or Princess?

Tomorrow is the big day. I am officially 36 weeks along, and my scheduled C-section is less than 24 hours away. Despite having 3 previous deliveries this way, I’ll admit that I’m probably as nervous as I am excited to meet our little one. Gender reveal coming your way soon. In the meantime, drop your guess for pink or blue in the comments. 👇🩷💙

My goal today is to rest and soak in as much quiet as I can. I feel like I ought to be doing more than sitting around, but I keep reminding myself that it’s okay to do nothing sometimes. After all, there will be plenty of somethings to do after today. 🐣

Thank you to everyone who has prayed and supported us during this season. This community has surrounded my family with more love and kindness than I ever imagined. I’ll keep posting updates to our GoFundMe page as I am able. In the meantime, we are grateful for your continued prayers and encouragement. 🥰

Side note: Don’t forget that the Clean Thrills YA Giveaway is happening through July 3rd. Glass Across the Sea is one of 7 Clean YA reads you can win. Enter via the 🔗link in my bio✨and be sure to check out my previous post for all the details. Happy summer reading! My upcoming reads will probably consist of books like Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit… and I’m okay with that. ☺️

😱 Wow! I don’t even have words right now for this 😱 Wow! I don’t even have words right now for this complete and utter shock!

When I learned that Glass Across the Sea is a Realm Award finalist in the fantasy category, I was at a loss for words. This was an unexpected surprise, to say the least. 🥰

This book was written and edited through my miscarriage last year. It is the most difficult novel I have ever written, and the one I’m most proud of. Thank you to all the judges, readers, and Realmies who have played a part in bringing this little Cinderella story this far.

And thanks to my team at @enclavepublishing who walked with me through the darkness. I almost didn’t finish this book, but I am so grateful for every person who played a role in making sure I did.

I won’t be at Realm Makers this year, but I’ll be cheering all the finalists on from afar (probably from the hospital with a newborn in my arms). 💕 Congratulations, everyone!

🌷If you’re wondering why I’ve been quiet this year 🌷If you’re wondering why I’ve been quiet this year, I promise I’ve had a good reason.

Last year I shared that I miscarried twins, and shortly afterward, my father-in-law passed away. The year before, my husband lost his job right after we moved into our dream home. With so much loss in such a short amount of time, we grew tired and wary. But through it all, God has remained good and faithful.

With spring in full bloom, I passed the 20-week mark of this unexpected miracle high-risk pregnancy. 🐣 And with every doctor appointment, a world of emotions arise. What if my baby’s heart stops beating? I waited to share the news publicly because I felt so uncertain. The truth is, only God knows how this pregnancy will end. We are praising Him for this little life, and trusting Him with all the unknowns.

It’s a season of new beginnings for our family. I certainly didn’t expect to be a new mama again at 41. My 40s are going to look different than I imagined, but God is sovereign. I know His plans and ways are far better than mine.

My husband also didn’t expect to be starting a new career. After hitting many dead ends in his previous vocation, he’s starting from the bottom of his new profession and working his way up. I am so proud of how hard he works to provide for our family, and I am beyond grateful for the man I get to call mine. 💕

We are preparing to pack up and say goodbye to the dream home we built. 🏡 It’s a sad ending we didn’t anticipate, but we also know it’s not the end. God will use us wherever he puts us, whether that’s in our dream home or a little apartment.

And with all this change, we have found ourselves in need. I’ve been reluctant to share more details regarding our personal story, but several dear friends encouraged me to open up, and they reminded me of the kind community I have surrounding me here.

If you’d like to read more about our story or feel led to contribute, we’ve set up a GoFundMe. You can find the link in my Stories and bio. Thank you to everyone who has prayed, supported, and encouraged us through each trial. No matter what happens, God is in the details of our story. Soli Deo Gloria. Psalm 115:1

💪 What motivates you to get moving? Little known 💪 What motivates you to get moving?

Little known fact about me: I do not enjoy exercising. Not for the sake of it anyway. But I do love going on walks. I love soaking up vitamin D and taking an hour for myself to catch up on voice memos from friends, listen to podcasts or audiobooks or Scripture, or even just turn on some tunes. 🎧

I’m not kidding when I say that my go-to soundtrack when I walk has been the music of Disneyland. There’s just something about it that makes me want to walk even in the record high heat we’ve had in March this year in AZ. Maybe I’m tricking myself into thinking I’m rope dropping Space Mountain. Whatever works, right? 😂🎡

I’m going on 3 months of walking 2-3 miles a day, 5 days a week. There’s been a lot happening around here lately, and I do have more personal life updates to share. For now I wanted to share this because walking consistently has improved my mood and helped me keep up my strength and energy. Plus I can get a tan at the same time! (A farmer’s tan, at least. 🤦‍♀️)

I know I’ve been quiet on here this year. I promise I have a good excuse! If you haven’t read my spring newsletter on Substack yet, my biggest life update can be found there. If you’d rather wait for the announcement here, that works too. ❤️

More on that soon, I promise. Until then, go outside (or stay inside) and get moving today. A little Disney music goes a long way. 😘

🍪 Food is my love language. Whenever we go out of 🍪 Food is my love language.

Whenever we go out of town, I’m already looking at menus ahead of time, planning what yummy things I want to eat.

Themed food is my favorite. Call a honey latte a Pooh Bear Latte and I’m sold! Serve me a cup of the most delectable potato soup I’ve ever had and call it Samwise Soup? I’m there!

If I’m going to Disneyland, I’m planning my day around which new cold brew I want to try and where I want to eat lunch. And if I’m going to a writing conference? You’d better bet I’m on the hunt for a Vanilla Coke and the best hotel cookies yet!

Yummy food just makes everything a little more magical. Can you relate? What’s your favorite food, drink, or dessert?

🥳 Happy Birthday, @nadinebrandes ! There aren’t m 🥳 Happy Birthday, @nadinebrandes !

There aren’t many people in this world who tackle hardship with joy the way you do. You are a true example of what it means to “count it all joy” amidst trials. Even on your toughest days, you find ways to bless others and see God’s sovereignty.

I don’t know what I did to deserve you as my best friend all these years. But I do know that God brought you into my life because He knew my life would be richer and fuller and just all around better with you in it. He knew I would need someone to walk alongside me in good times and bad. Someone to encourage me during discouraging years like this one has been.

I have been so blessed to see you so much in 2025. Although we are states apart, when we are together it feels like no time has passed at all.

Here’s to the woman who inspires me as an author, speaks truth into me as a wife and mom, and reminds me that God never leaves us and that His plan and timing are perfect. I love you, Bestie! Many happy returns for the rest of 2025 and the year to come! My life is better because I know you.
