Review and iPad Mini Giveaway!
Thalli from Pod C knows this about herself, knows that she is different from those around her. She also knows that to be different means to be annihilated.
As the musician for her Pod, Thalli is responsible for playing music that will help her Podmates perform their own duties better. The problem is, as an Anomaly, Thalli can’t simply play her violin without feeling something too. Her emotions, the ones that aren’t supposed to be there, surface as she plays, and as far as the scientists are concerned, such a thing is detrimental to the State’s underground society.
Anomaly by Krista McGee is dystopian fiction at its best. Filled with suspense, forbidden love, and a futuristic society, Anomaly sets the stage for Krista’s exciting new series.
What I liked…
Young adult dystopian fiction is my favorite kind of book. Give me first love and a backwards government any day. From Divergent to Delirium, I’ve read it all. When I saw Krista’s newest novel Anomaly up for review, I jumped at the chance to be one of the first to read it. It promised everything I love in a dystopian, plus the added bonus of a Biblical world view. Anomaly was my first experience with Krista as an author, and after reading her work I have decided that she is the one to watch.
I enjoyed Thalli’s first person narrative, which seems to be the going style for many young adult novels these days. There is just something more personal about seeing the story through the protagonist’s present, internal monologue. It feels very “right here and now”, in my opinion. Krista’s take on a possible future for the United States was unique as well. She sets the stage nicely with a story arc that leads right up to book two. I, as the reader am already wondering, “What’s next?” Will Thalli be annihilated for her crimes against the State or will she find the freedom she never even knew existed?
Recommendation…
If you’re anything like me, and by me I mean a “YA Junkie”, there’s no doubt you’ll love Anomaly. With just the right blend of romance, suspense, and Biblical truth, Anomaly is everything the young adult market needs today. In a culture where books for teens are growing increasingly distasteful, Anomaly is a novel parents can feel comfortable buying for their kids.
About the Author…
When Krista McGee isn’t living in fictional worlds of her own creation, she lives in Tampa and spends her days as a wife, mom, teacher, and coffee snob. She is also the author of First Date, Starring Me, and Right Where I Belong.
