Last week, Noelle and I continued on our adventure through “Heaven is for Real for Kids” by discovering that “Heaven is a Wonderful Place”.
We started off with using Legos to build a model of our own home. Of course, we didn’t have all blue blocks so it ended up taking on a “rainbow” look. Still, we had fun building it together and talking about our favorite rooms. Noelle loves her own room with her flower bedspread, special reading corner, and TV. My favorite is our living room which is bright and welcoming and hosts pictures of my family on the walls.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is preparing a special place for us in Heaven.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3 (NIV)
We don’t need to worry because our Father in Heaven knows us. He knows how
many hairs are on our heads (Luke 12:7) and He knows the desires of our
hearts (Psalm 37:4). Heaven will be a wonderful place because the One who
knows us better than anyone is preparing a place just for us—a place we will live
forever with Him.
After our “construction” project, Noelle got to decorate a wristband. I told her to think about what kinds of things might be in her room in Heaven and to draw those things on her wristband. She drew her name, clouds and a sun, be
dposts, and a carpet. She was so excited to do this special project and it opened the doors to some interesting conversation about what our special places in Heaven might be like. For example: Noelle loves purple. She asked if since Jesus knows that is her favorite color if He might decorate her room in purple. I said “You never know. Purple is the color of royalty and you are the daughter of a King.”
Next we discussed a time Noelle spent away from home. She talked about how she stayed at her Nana and Papa’s house while I was with her sister Madi in the hospital for a few days at the beginning of this week. She had fun there but said she was so glad to be back in her own bed, in her own room, with all of her special things. I told her that Heaven will be just like coming home from a trip away. It will be wonderful and we don’t need to be afraid of going there someday.
