A life-changing journey into the heart of God
Where does the time go? This is what I ask myself every night as I crawl into bed. What have I done with my day and why didn’t I make time for God…again? It’s my intention, of course. I set my alarm, get some coffee going and open my Bible. But somehow, that’s as far as I get. Whether it’s my oldest asking for breakfast or my youngest crying at the top of her lungs, somehow I never get further than “In the beginning…”.
I need a schedule. I need organization. I need simplicity, for goodness sake.
If this is you, look no further than Diane Stortz’s new book, A Woman’s Guide to Reading the Bible in a Year. It’s organized, easy to follow, and best of all you can start at any time! You can use whatever version of the Bible you currently own and you can take each week at your own pace. It comes with a handy, illustrated guide to the books of the Bible, and each week includes a “Share the journey” section so that you can jot down notes, questions, or particular verses that stood out to you. If you follow the daily checklist, you’ll be given about three chapters to read, which Diane says will take about fifteen to twenty minutes. You can take the journey alone or in a group. Whatever you do, you’ll be sure to find this book the solution to your Bible time frustrations.
What I liked…
The simplicity. I’ve done other “Bible in a year” programs, but this one is by far my favorite. I can begin whenever I want and if I miss a day or even a week I can just pick up where I left off. The format fits into my schedule and I can easily take a few minutes before bed or during naptime to catch up on my reading. Each week, Diane gives a short synopsis of what you’ll be reading, complete with an appropriate title to summarize the week’s themes. It’s the perfect guide for busy moms or any woman on the go.
Recommendation…
Yes. It’s that simple. I absolutely recommend this book. If you are a woman looking to draw closer to God through the reading of His word, this book is for you. There is no greater tool given to us than the Bible. To read it is to know Him. Are you ready?
