How do you start your day? Is it with a morning cup of Joe or another hot beverage of choice? Maybe you like to go for a run or listen to music to get pumped up for the tasks ahead. For me, if I can start my day in silence that’s all I could ever ask for.
Those rare moments when my kids actually stay in bed when I rise.
Those few precious minutes before the sun comes up and the noises of the day surround me.
Those beautiful refreshing breaths I take when no one is asking me to make breakfast or get them a glass of water.
Those are the moments that get me going, that help me start my day with the right attitude.
I don’t always get to start my days off in silence and when I do, my time is usually brief. For the most part, if I can finish even a chapter in my Bible, I am doing pretty well. I usually do devotions with my girls at the breakfast table before we start school for the day. I keep a stack of different devotionals on a kitchen stool and my daughter picks which one she wants to hear from each day. I’ve been into a few of my own this year and have enjoyed each one thoroughly. Each author takes a different approach and I enjoy the fresh perspectives I get, depending on what I am reading.
Revealing Jesus by Darlene Zschech is a 365-day devotional that has truly enriched my personal morning moments in the recent weeks. Filled with scripture, hymns, and lots of encouragement, this stunning keepsake of a book is the perfect addition to your daily time with Elohim.
What I liked…
Aside from the attractive cover and journal-like pages, I really enjoy the way the daily scriptures are set up. Rather than a random scripture each day, like other devotionals I own, Darlene sticks with a section of scripture or theme for several days straight. For the past two weeks, each entry has begun with a scripture from Matthew. I like staying on one theme or concept for several days because it allows for deeper study and personal reflection.

I also think this book is unique for the lyrics to hymns and worship songs that are sprinkled throughout its pages. There is just something about worshipping my Savior in song that sets a tone for the day. I feel uplifted and freed when I sing to the One who gave it all for me. As Darlene is a renowned songwriter and worship leader, I felt this attribute fit perfectly in her book.
Recommendation…
Whether you are searching for the perfect Mother’s Day or graduation gift this spring, or just need a little something new for your personal time with the King of Kings, you need not look any further than Revealing Jesus by Darlene Zschech. I found the book intimate, reflective and beautiful. I recommend it and would purchase it myself the next time I am looking for a gift for a loved one.
