God Bless You and Good Night, written by Hannah C. Hall, with illustrations by Steve Whitlow, is a darling little board book my one-year-old just loves. She is really interested in animals and all of a sudden has begun to ask me to read to her. Where a few weeks ago she couldn’t sit still for story time, now she hands me book after book, squealing in delight as I read and let her turn the pages. She loves when I make the animal sounds and begs me to read the same book over and over again.
With softly painted pictures of baby animals and their mommies as they get ready for bed, I fell in love with God Bless You and Good Night from the very first rhyme to the final goodnight kiss. This book is a precious keepsake, one I can imagine I will read to my grand-babies one day.
Some books end up on the shelf with the many others we own, getting read only a few times a year. God Bless You and Good Night, however, has a special place in a basket on the floor—the basket my girls choose books from most. I am so excited that my one-year-old in particular wants to be read to that I don’t even mind reading the same book over and over again. It’s just part of being a mommy!
God Bless You and Good Night is recommended for children ages 1 to 4 years. If your little ones are anything like mine, they will be snuggling with this book rather than a stuffed animal. As I share this with you, in fact, my baby is asleep in her swing with a book under her arm. I guess it’s a good thing I’m a Tommy Nelson Mommy—good books are a true treasure in our house!

The bedtime routine in our home is that we read a chapter book (one chapter each night) and we do a devotion and we pray together, then kisses and goodnights. 🙂
Joni Hawkins says
Our bedtime routine is a warm bath, lavender soap and lotion, a bottle and a bedtime story.

Lavender makes a huge difference here too, Joni. Thanks for sharing 😉

I am actually a Grandmother but when my girls were young we used to always read a book before bed and say prayers
Sara Ella says
Grandmas still have a place in bedtime routines, Michelle. If you taught your children good bedtime routines they have probably passed them on to their own little ones 😉
Melani says
When my grand children are over, we read a little, pray and say good night.
Kayla Rice says

Laura Pol says
Starts with brushing teeth, reading the Bible, getting tucked in, singing a song, and somewhere in there we get the jammies on! 🙂
Joyce and Norm says
Small yogurt snack (helps the kids sleep), brush teeth/wash face, read a short picture book (4yo) or a chapter in a book (6yo), read Bible/devotions/prayer, write down 1 favorite part of the day/blessing, final call for the bathroom, turn out the lights 🙂
Genevieve Y. says
Bath, PJs, brush teeth, story time, hugs & kisses.
Crystal @ Serving Joyfully says
Looks like such a sweet book! Our bedtime is pretty typical–bath, brush teeth, story time, prayer 🙂 Sometimes we talk about the day a little bit as well.

It is a sweet book, Crystal! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
