Plus a Tommy Nelson Mommy Giveaway!
The Door Within by Wayne Thomas Batson is book one in my new favorite series for teens. Similar to C.S. Lewis’ popular series surrounding the world of Narnia, Batson’s Realm is not soon to be forgotten. As young Aidan encounters Glimpse Knights, Moonrascals, Lantern Spiders, and the formidable army of Paragory, there is only One who remains constant and faithful through it all. Will Aidan have enough faith to risk everything and trust in King Eliam alone, or will he give into his fears and doubts and return to his world unchanged?
What I liked…
The Door Within was an extremely enjoyable and entertaining read that spoke to me on a deep and moving level. Wayne Thomas Batson mixes just the right amount of humor, adventure, and emotion in his writing. The entire time I was reading The Door Within I kept thinking, “My girls will love this book when they get older.”
The Door Within is truly a gem of an addition to my home library. I enjoyed the subtle symbolism used in The Door Within. Rather than using a direct “telling” approach, Batson “shows” his readers the beautiful story of our Savior’s love. How He laid down His life for all of us and that all we have to do is believe and we will be saved. I actually cried at the end of this book, it touched me so deeply. I understand why Yeshua spoke in Parables so often. Like seeing the sunset for the first time, a story well told can truly reach your heart like nothing else can.
Batson drew from scripture to create much of the dialogue for The Door Within. I was impressed with how naturally it fit into the story and how Batson’s characters so believably pulled off conveying the story’s Biblical message. The Door Within will leave you thinking and most of all, it will leave you thirsting for the next book in the series.
Recommendation…
I highly recommend you add The Door Within to your collection, particularly if you have a teen or middle grade reader at home. The Door Within has all the action and suspense young readers want, with a powerful message that is truly lacking in so many young adult novels today. I plan on reading and owning the entire series and am so excited to share this book with my girls when they are older. The Door Within is also part of the Accelerated Reader program, which is used by thousands of schools nationwide.
Have you ever asked your kids if they’d be willing to risk everything they know to stand up for Christ? How do they live out their faith day to day?

I have not but with time will. They are a bit young.
Sara Ella says
Mine are too, Kayla. My prayer is to be the kind of parent who teaches them to have a strong faith like the kind Aidan has in the book:)
keely hostetter says
We have but at their understanding level they don’t quite know what that could mean. As they grow older I hope they truly grasp how to stand up for Christ.
Sara Ella says
Same here, keely:)

Wow that is a deep question! I haven’t asked my son since he is so little, but my sister is a preteen! I know one way she has taken a stand in her faith is by telling other people who have bullied her that Jesus loves them!
Sara Ella says
Good for her, Laura. That can be hard to do.
Elizabeth Towns says
I haven’t ever asked my children that, but now I will. And I will answer that question for them. What a good reason to have a conversation about Christ and our love for God!
Sara Ella says
Excellent, Elizabeth!
