Plus a Tommy Nelson Mommy Giveaway!
I can’t believe the summer is already over. We began our new homeschool year on Monday and are so excited for the year ahead. My sweet baby is a first grader this year. They always tell you that “time flies”, but you don’t ever realize it until that time already behind you.
To keep my girls from getting too ansty, we break up our mornings by venturing outdoors. I push my youngest in the stroller while my oldest rides her bike. Call it our “recess” if you will. We love our morning walks and I have found that my first grader watches the clock, anticipating the moment when the little hand reaches the ten.
“It’s ten o’clock”, she’ll say. “Time for our morning walk! Hey, that rhymes!”
I’m not kidding you, that is truly what she says.
Physical activity isn’t the only purpose of our neighborhood excursions. We also tie in learning as we stroll. We point out colors and shapes for my youngest while my oldest reads the street signs, blowing me away with just how smart she is.
When we received Nature Bible for review from Tommy Nelson I was so excited for the chance to incorporate it into our outdoor time together. The Nature Bible is filled with great inserts filled with fun facts about nature, as well as ideas for nature projects and activities. Today we tried the one called “Leaf it to me!”
Collecting leaves from different plants and trees opened up the opportunity for a discussion about our Creator and how He makes each one of us unique.
“Look at all these leaves,” I said. “See how each one looks different? In the same way Elohim makes each of us special in our own way.”
My oldest loves to be outside and was so happy when I told her that she actually got to bring her leaves inside the house. I came up with the idea to start a nature book, using our new collection. We took a sheet protector made to hold trading cards and inserted our leaves instead. Next we labeled each leaf, writing their names on blank address labels. My daughter studied them when we were done, and then we flipped the sheet over so we could still see the leaves but not the labels. She had so much fun trying to remember each leaf’s name, she asked when we could go out and collect more!
The Nature Bible also includes a full color, illustrated Bible timeline, a word dictionary, excerpts from scripture about creation, ideas on caring for creation, and Prayers for Our Planet. This International Children’s Bible has a soft cloth cover that zips closed, so you don’t even need a separate cover. The Nature Bible is larger than a pocket Bible, but compact enough for on the go. It fit perfectly in the pouch on the front of my daughter’s bike.
How about you? If you could take your Bible anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Join the discussion in the comments section below and you’ll be entered to win your very own copy of the Nature Bible. Use the Rafflecopter to record your entry and to earn extra entries too. The giveaway ends Thursday, August 29th. One random winner will be chosen and emailed by Friday, Auguts 30th.
Until then, happy reading!
Yours in Messiah Yeshua,
S
