I’m a list maker. In fact, this blog post is one of many things on this week’s list of “things to do before going to Phoenix”. On top of that, I have two chapters to read and make notes on for my writer’s critique group and another book review due by Friday. I also need to get an oil change and wash the windows on my car.
Yes, lists are a part of everyday life. Whether you write them down like I do or just carry them around in your head, one thing is certain:
Lists are never complete.
Every time I check one thing off I add at least two more. I’ve folded the laundry, but it’s taken me four days to get to it. I’ve checked it off my list (finally!) but I already have to do laundry again!
Does it ever end?
Sometimes we spend so much time focusing on the things we can do, that we forget what the Bible says about such things:
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
The word for “cast” in the Greek literally means to “throw”. When I think of throwing something, I picture a swift action with some force behind it. It is something done with purpose, usually with a destination in mind. It takes effort to throw something. Giving up a list of things I can do isn’t something done easily. It requires a choice to rely on my Savior, knowing that He is the one who came to this earth so that I wouldn’t have to carry the burden of our my sin.
“For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:30 (NIV)
He’s the catcher behind home plate, just waiting for your pitch. Will you throw your burdens to Him today, trusting that He is the one who will catch and carry them?
Today’s entry in Jesus Calling for Kids: Deluxe Edition spoke so much to me as I looked upon my to-do list with dread. How would I ever get everything done without losing some hair in the process? I love what author Sarah Young wrote on page 330. Read this as if Yeshua (Jesus) is speaking directly to you.
“Next time, instead of measuring your day against what you think you can do, measure it against what you know I can do—which is anything! There is no such thing as a day too tough for Me…I already know everything you’ll face today. And I’ll help you face it…Look to Me for all you need. I promise I won’t let you down!”
Oh that I would rely on all Him today! Father, give me the strength to throw. Catch my burdens today. Amen!
Jesus Calling for Kids by Sarah Young is now available as a Deluxe Edition. S

I definitely need to lay down my burden of being/becoming a “perfect” mom. It’ just ain’t gonna happen 🙂 And I’m tired of how I make my family feel while I’m pursuing that goal.
Sara Ella says
What a great response, Christa. I think we all struggle with that. Just remember that the perfect mom is one who loves her kids and family. Leave the rest to Him!

I need to leavd my “what’s next”questions with God instead of working out my own scenarios. God has our next steps already planned.
Sara Ella says
That’s so true, Angela. I need to work on this as well 😉
