But moving on to The Heart of Betrayal…
Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape . . . and even less of being together
Desperate to save her life, Lia’s erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komisar that she has a magical gift, and the Komisar’s interest in Lia is greater than either Kaden or Lia foresaw.
Meanwhile, the foundations of Lia’s deeply-held beliefs are crumbling beneath her. Nothing is straightforward: there’s Rafe, who lied to her, but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom she always believed to be barbarians but whom she now realizes are people who have been terribly brutalized by the kingdoms of Dalbreck and Morrighan. My Thoughts…
The Kiss of Deception was one big guessing game for me. I loved texting my theories to my friend Neysa, whom I have affectionately dubbed my fairy book-mother because she always recommends the best reads. My head was spinning from the time I figured out that there was a huge mystery involved. Who was the assassin? Who was the prince? Of course, in the end, my theory was correct. I knew all along who was who 🙂 My lips are sealed though. You have to read it for yourself.

I’ll be interested to see what Mary E. Pearson does with the plot in The Heart of Betrayal. A huge part of the enjoyment in reading The Kiss of Deception was not knowing who was who. Now that I know, I’m curious to see what kind of plot twists she’ll come up with. I think there’s more to the guys vying for Lia’s heart, and I’d like to get to know them (especially Kaden) a bit better.
