I think Kermit the Frog said it best, though I am not sure he was talking about the kind of “green” I am experiencing today. Today I have two sick little girls; two “green” little girls. I suppose it would fit more to say “It’s not easy being a mom of kids that are green”.
Here’s a fact: moms just aren’t allowed to be sick. It’s not in our job description. Amidst all the coughing and wheezing and sniffling, there just isn’t room for us to join in. We have more important things to do, like monitor temperatures, clean out bulb syringes, and administer Tylenol every four hours. We are super-moms and we will prevail!
And that’s when God reminds me that it is not my strength, but HIS that gets me through these “green” days.
“I can do everything through HIM who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
“…the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.” 1 Corinthians 1:25b
“…If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ…” 1 Peter 4:11b
All throughout scripture we see the strength of God come out in man’s weakness. It is not by my strength that I am able to run on thirty minute intervals of sleep, but by Hisstrength that I am able to do so. He knows what we need, when we need it. (Matthew 6:8) He knows that today I need to have energy to take care of my “green” babies, despite a lack of sleep. It’s times like this that I know without a doubt that God sees me and knows me; how else would I be able to function otherwise?
