Lesson 3 ~ Jesus Really, Really Loves Kids

We started out by singing “Jesus Loves the Little Children”. The book provides hand and arm movements to go with the song. After we sang, we talked about a time each of us felt really loved. Noelle said she feels loved when her friends invite her over, when Nana and Papa let her swim in their pool (in the summer), and when I take her to the park.

Next I asked her, “How does Jesus show His love for us?”

 “He died on the cross,” she said. ”

Why did he do that?” I asked.

 “So we wouldn’t have to die and so we could go to Heaven with Him.”

I just love the sweet simplicity and perfect trust of a child. No question about it. Jesus died on the cross and we are going to Heaven to be with Him. Awesome!

The Bible story from Luke 18 was the reference for this lesson. We read it together and talked about how Jesus wanted the children with Him and near Him. The book suggests playing “Red Rover”, but since we didn’t have enough people for that we just talked about how it makes Noelle feel when I call her name and want to spend time with her. She told me it makes her so happy and I explained that is how it is with Jesus. He loves children and wants them to be with Him.

Later on in our lesson we got to talk about our special talents and how God made each of us special and unique. Noelle is a talented dancer and we also said that her long blonde hair is something that makes her unique. She twirled around the room and together we thanked God for giving her these special gifts.

We ended our lesson with a little craft and assignment. Noelle decorated two treat tags and we attached them to lollipops.

Her task was to watch for others who are using the special gifts God gave them. She would then give them the treat

with the tag attached that says “Jesus Really, Really Loves You”.

She decided to give them to her two cousins, Aaric and Ailsa. She said “Aaric is good at jumping and Ailsa is a good dancer like me.” As always, we ended in prayer and thanked Jesus for making each of us special in our own way.
