Recipes and stories from the Amish of Sarasota, Florida
I love good food! Who doesn’t, right? I love to experiment and try new things, and I especially love when what I try becomes a hit at parties or family get-togethers. Besides that, I like the recipes I try to be simple. I prefer to have the ingredients on hand and if I don’t, I at least want to be able to find them at our small town grocery store. I hate making trips to specialty stores for specific ingredients. What mom has time for that?
If this describes you, I highly recommend Sherry Gore’s Simply Delicious Amish Cooking . Filled with stories of the Amish culture and delicious recipes you’ll love, this cookbook is a new favorite in our household.
What I liked…
I had a chance to try out a handful of the recipes, and not one of them disappointed. The Frozen Mocha Marbled Loaf in particular was huge hit at our Father’s Day get together, earning comments like “Oh, man. OH MAN!” and “Wow! That is the best dessert I have ever had!” I love all things coffee, and Sherry’s book has plenty of recipes for coffee lovers.
Simply Delicious Amish Cooking is also filled with breakfast recipes such as Stuffed Raspberry French Toast, which was super easy and so yummy too! I already had all the ingredients in my fridge and pantry, which made it even better!
Sherry’s book also contains easy dinner fixings such as the classic Tater Tot Casserole (a favorite of my husband’s), and an easy Baste for Barbecuing Chicken. At first, I thought the baste might not give much flavor to the chicken, given that there are only a few simple ingredients in the recipe. Boy was I wrong! The chicken was so good and flavorful, this baste will be my new “go-to” recipe for when I don’t have special marinades on hand.
I also loved reading about the Amish culture and seeing the pictures from The Budget newspaper. The vivid photos of some of the recipes are beautiful, though I do wish there was a photo for every recipe, simply because I am so visual. The recipes are simple enough though, so the extra photos aren’t really needed, thus giving it the name “Simply” Delicious Amish Cooking.
Recommendation…
Looking for some “simply delicious” recipes? Want to try something new without breaking your grocery budget or having to make a large shopping trip for odd ingredients? Then you must try Sherry Gore’s Simply Delicious Amish Cooking. I can’t wait to try more of the recipes, the coffee ones especially, of course.
