One book I have already decided to include and implement into next year’s Bible schedule is Children’s Favorite Bible Stories from Tommy Nelson. It’s jam-packed with all the ingredients needed to cook up a Bible lesson that’s rich in taste and full of texture.
A Woman’s Guide to Reading the Bible in a Year by Diane Stortz
I need a schedule. I need organization. I need simplicity, for goodness sake.
If this is you, look no further than Diane Stortz’s new book, A Woman’s Guide to Reading the Bible in a Year. It’s organized, easy to follow, and best of all you can start at any time! You can use whatever version of the Bible you currently own and you can take each week at your own pace. It comes with a handy, illustrated guide to the books of the Bible, and each week includes a “Share the journey” section so that you can jot down notes, questions, or particular verses that stood out to you. If you follow the daily checklist, you’ll be given about three chapters to read, which Diane says will take about fifteen to twenty minutes. You can take the journey alone or in a group. Whatever you do, you’ll be sure to find this book the solution to your Bible time frustrations.
Yielded Captive by Dalaina May
What if you had the task of being a mother without all the modern comforts of home?
Yielded Captive by Dalaina May, while fictional, contains all the emotion, heartbreak, and even joy of a story that is true to life. The book is about Allison, a young wife and mother who is a Christian missionary is the Peruvian jungle. Everything seems as if it’s going well for Allison, her husband Eric, and their infant son, Isaac. That is until their camp is raided, Eric is shot, and Allison and her nursing boy are dragged off into the jungle by seemingly savage men.
Lesson 4 ~ Heaven is More Amazing Than You Can Imagine
Our scripture reference this week comes from Revelation 21: 19-21 which talks about the different stones that make up the city walls in Heaven. Noelle got the chance to do a coloring sheet where she got to color (and even decorate with glitter) the precious stones described in this passage.
Broken Wings by Shannon Dittemore
As with Angel Eyes, I truly enjoyed the prose-like writing that is now classic Shannon Dittemore. While it’s only her second novel, Shannon writes as if she has twenty novels under her belt. Her descriptions draw you in and make you think of things in new ways. Her imagination brings the story into full color. I particularly loved how she described the “smell” of worship. It makes you wonder how worship really looks to our Creator. As humans, our senses are limited, but God is unlimited. Could our worship of Him really have a pleasing aroma? I believe it’s possible.
Bible Stories that end with a hug!
I’m a hugger. I love giving hugs and I love getting hugs. There’s nothing better than when your child runs up to you, jumps into your arms and squeezes the life out of you. Or what about when your baby makes the transition from simply letting you cuddle her to actually returning the cuddle back? Hugs say “I love you”… Read More
