I thought the strong themes of friendship and bullying in Anna Olswanger’s Greenhorn were very relevant to our society today. With social media outlets, kids have more opportunities to name call, bully, and gossip, and a lot of the time without their parents ever knowing about it. Sticking up for a buddy, no matter how difficult or unpopular, can be a true test of friendship. Anna’s characters are real, and though set in a different time period, they mirror actions and behaviors that kids still have today.
The Offering by Angela Hunt
The message of The Offering, regarding sacrifice, made me think of the Bible in so many ways. Of Abraham and his willingness to give up Isaac when God called him to. Of the wise King Solomon and the story of the two mothers fighting over a baby. The true mother was willing to sacrifice her own happiness to keep her child safe. And of course, of Yahweh, who gave his only son Yeshua to die so we might live. What an amazing love that is! It touched me and made me oh so thankful for the Salvation that I all too often take for granted

The Christian Parenting Handbook
I liked The Christian Parenting Handbook for its simple navigation and short chapters. Every child has different issues and not everything in this book will apply to every family. The fifty chapter glossary at the beginning makes it easy to find the problems and solutions you are personally looking for, from transferring responsibility to losing the blame game. Each chapter goes over different problems and suggestions for solutions. There were certain chapters in particular that I found applied to me at this stage of life.
Catch a Falling Star by Beth K. Vogt
I read somewhere that there are two types of stories: character driven and conflict driven. I was pleased to find that Catch a Falling Star was both. Beth’s characters are real and flawed and oh so relatable. On top of that, she spices things up with conflict after conflict. ..
